Long term care insurance, is a personal insurance policy that will protect your loved ones if they ever face financial strain as a result of your care in your later years.

In today’s economy, the average costs for elder-care home facilities can cost from $35,000 a year and up. Unfortunately, with these costs, Medicare isn’t enough. If you qualify, Medicaid may cover a portion of the cost. Long term health care insurance can help cover the costs of a nursing facility or home care if the necessary due to age, long term disability or illness.

Most likely, you can afford to pay the premiums of this policy more easily that you will be able to pay for the total cost of a nursing home. Also, there may be tax benefits to having a long term health care plan.  Keep in mind, if you show any substantial income, you will probably not qualify for Medicaid assistance.
